China World Trade Center Tower III Celebrated its Grand Opening

China’s tallest building celebrated its grand opening on August 30, 2010. This LEED Gold Tower closed the third and recent phase of development of the China World Trade Center complex in Beijing’s central business district of Chaoyang. With beautiful new structure designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP, this energy efficient eco-tower whose exterior is hardly different from the World Trade Center complex in New York is home to five-star hotels, 1,600-seat grand ballroom, offices, restaurants, meeting and commercial space. Its open courtyards including rooftop pine and landscaped water garden offer a comfortable contrast to the existing dense urban landscapes. The crystalline façades help maximize interior daylighting for building. It is a 330m supertall skyscraper with 81 storeys and 30 elevators, four underground floors, and a car park at basement level. With 389,079 square metres, the building becomes the second-largest in the world, after the Pentagon and the largest office building in China. The World Trade Center takes over the first and second positions of the Fortune Plaza Office Building 1 standing at 260 metres with 63 storeys and the Park Tower 250 metres.

The office space is located on floors 1 to 55.

The tower’s elevators reach a maximum speed of 10 meters per second. There are 5-star hotel, a grand ballroom, and a car park.

The LEED Gold Tower becomes a symbolic marker for the Central Business District.

The tower boasts a comprehensive energy and conservation strategy. The facades are covered with fritted glass and metal fins.

The new tower has private, public, and commercial spaces.

The eco-tower has already registered for LEED Gold certification.

The World Trade Center Tower III creates an irregular grid on the building’s façade with an open center.

The China World Trader Center Tower 1 was completed in 1989, marking the beginning of Beijing’s first building boom.
